Mizu Ryu Ju Jitsu Syllabus

Our Syllabus is split depending on the age of the student. Unlike other Ju Jitsu styles, we do not allow juniors to use submission techniques until they are either old enough or high graded enough to have the trust of the teacher. When they reach 14 / 15 years of age, if they are Brown or Black Belts, then they can be taught under strict supervision to prepare them for the transition to the senior syllabus at the age of 16.

Junior Syllabus is for ages 6 to 15 years. This concentrates on breakaway techniques, strikes, throws, holds, safety weapons, meditation, history, discipline and having fun.

Senior Syllabus is from 16 years + This is the full range of techniques including all the above plus a full range of submission techniques as well as other weapons, pressure points revival and restoration techniques.

Mizu Ryu Ju Jitsu Belts

White, the first belt you wear, signifies Purity. A birth, or beginning, of a seed. A white belt student is a beginner searching for knowledge of the Art. Looking for the right path to follow. The white belt represents the beginning of life's cycle, and the seed as it lies beneath the snow in the winter.

White Belt is like the Utsuri and Kohaku Obi, a ceremonial belt.

There are 7 different Colour graded belts in our syllabus.

  • Red

  • Yellow

  • Orange

  • Green

  • Blue

  • Brown

  • Black (+ additional Gold Dan bars)

After that come ceremonial or honorary belts

  • Utsuri Obi (Black & Red Belt) at 5th Dan

  • Kohaku Obi (Red & White Belt) at 6th - 8th Dan

  • Aka Obi (Red Belt) Black Belt 9th & 10th Dan.

Black Belts of any Dan grade can elect to wear a Black Belt.
